Carryduff Shopping Centre is located approximately 8 miles south of Belfast City Centre at the junction of the A24 Ballynahinch Road and Church Road in the town of Carryduff. Carryduff has seen high levels of residential development making it a popular commuter town for Belfast.
The character of the area has and continues to change in terms of building form. It is appropriate to consider and respond to the existing context of surrounding buildings, both existing and approved. There is some variety of building scale along the town centre ranging from 1-3 storeys and whilst the immediate neighbouring buildings are of smaller scale, we believe a proposal for 4 storeys on the subject site is entirely in keeping with the previous approvals
The regeneration and redevelopment of the application site will attract inward investment and activity. It will revitalise a tired, substandard retail centre, introducing a quality new large anchor retailer. Various smaller retailers will follow encouraging local residents to shop locally. This project improves the quality of public space on offer within Carryduff at the focal point of this important intersection within the town centre.
